french california gold rush9/19/2010–FRENCH HERITAGE DAY Under the patronage of the French-American Cultural Society directed by Sophie Suberville, we celebrated French Heritage Day with an exhibit of sketches of the American frontier by French artists Frenzeny & Tavernier at the Consular Residence; and at the Alliance Française with an exhibit of 19th century mementos of San Francisco’s French community, as well as a panel of descendents of French pioneers of California: Nancy Claire Newkom spoke about her ancestor Jules Auradou; John Lane about Pierre Michel Joseph Lorquin; Marc Martini about his wife Claudie’s ancestor, Adrien Esmiol; Charles Segalas about his own family; Père Siffert recounted the history of Notre-Dame des Victoires and brought a beautiful reliquary and the register saved from the 1906 earthquake. An excellent day!

Journalist Loïc Etevenard reveals in his televised travel log “Carnet de Voyage à San Francisco” the thousand and one facets of this mythical town. In particular: “San Francisco is a magical city born from the California’s Gold Rush.
